As you may already know, SLIMBOOK
contributes a lot (or like no one else, taking our size in to account)
in open source projects, and a couple months ago, we set up an desarrolladores contribuidores del open source, (+info aquí / more info here) support campaign.
First things first. We want to thank every single one of you from the bottom of our hearts for joining this event and giving your best to improve the Open Source scene. The worldwide reception of this campaign has been overwhelming for us and we received hundreds of requests of every thinkable scope. We wish we were a bigger business and brand so we could contribute to every project and cause, but rest assured that we are doing all that is within our possibilities to help out the Open Source community.
Thought originally as a crazy idea that came out of the blue in a random brainstorm, this campaign was aiming to give away a laptop to an interesting open source project and offer a discount to some other projects that were out of our scope but were also interesting enough. Finally, because of the huge amount of people that joined this campaign, we decided work harder and stretch our donation budget to 5.500€ so we could give away more computers and discounts to even more developers. Such budget will be split in four computers valued at 3.500€ and ten 200€ discounts adding up to 2000€ for ten different projects.
Even with the budget increase, many
projects have been left out of the promotion and we had a hard time when
choosing which project gets what price. In some cases we even had to
resort to random.org!.
